IMPORTANT SURVEY

This year the Department of Education and Youth ran a very important survey about the type of school communities want for their children.

The survey was sent to parents by email twice this year. Our school had a very low response rate (42%) and we had no response from preschool parents.

There are actions that the Department want schools to take based on the survey results.

Our Board of Management feels that we can’t do these things as we do not have enough information.

We will be sending a paper version of the survey to parents on Monday to get your opinion. Please fill in the form and return it to the school by Friday 19th of June.

If your child is not in the school or Nursery Rhymes preschool at the moment you can get a copy of the survey from the school office from Monday 15th June.

Your so-operation in this matter is greatly appreciated

Attendance Matters

Attendance

Since Covid 19 absence levels have remained terribly high compared to pre Covid years.

In our school pre 2019 on average 7 children a year missed 20 days or higher.

This year the figure was over 60 children, over one third of our school population.

This level of poor attendance causes severe harm to children’s educational attainment. It is important that children avoid all unnecessary absences and are in school for the maximum time possible.

Care should also be taken with punctuality and pulling children from school early should also be avoided. This time quickly adds up and can impact learning.

For the new academic year it would be great if all efforts possible were made to improve this situation.
